John Smith Wade Sr. Profile Photo  John Smith Wade Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2024 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit, surrounded by his family. He was born August 12, 1935 in Guntown to Doc and Jewel Smith Wade. Many will remember John as the owner of Wade Heating and Air which he operated for several years. He was a longtime member of Oak Hill Community Church. John was an avid horseman who was skilled at roping and heeling. He was also a 32 degree Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and spending time with his family.

John leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Helen Lanphere Wade of Guntown; three children, John Wade Jr. of Ellistown, Kim Wade of Tupelo, and Dena Griggs (Bob) of Saltillo; and four grandchildren, Hunter York, Callie Rose York, Chase Griggs, and Lexi Griggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Billy, Gerald, and Joe.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Bro. Josh Tate officiating. Judd Wilson will provide special music. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at Pegues, Tupelo.

Pallbearers will be Hunter York, Bob Griggs, Chase Griggs, Rusty Lanphere, Paul Lanphere, and Lindsey Lanphere. John’s Sunday School Class at Oak Hill will serve as honorary pallbearers.
