John Royce Williamson, aged 90, passed away on August 12th, 2024, in Leoma, Tennessee. Born on July 26th, 1934, in Giles County, Tennessee, he was a cherished family man.
John graduated from Bodenham High School and dedicated much of his career to the Department of Agriculture, where he was known for his support of local farmers. His ability to engage with anyone and his love for the land were evident in his everyday interactions and professional commitments. John was also known for his captivating storytelling, which brought joy and laughter to both young and old.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Williamson; children, Susan Drennon, Johnny Williamson, and Lisa Williamson; grandchildren, Michael Drennon, Holly Nelson, Rebecca Zurschmiede, and Lois Ann Williamson; and four great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Judy Mayfield. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Birdie Harwell Williamson.
John’s hobbies included Tennessee Walking Horses, attending auctions and yard sales, and cultivating a large garden from which he generously shared produce with friends and neighbors.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions in John’s memory be made to the Wrap Closet of Giles County, c/o First Baptist Church, 407 S. First Street, Pulaski, TN 38478. The Wrap Closet serves children in foster care.
John’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as a man who made a significant impact behind the scenes, ensuring those around him had what they needed to thrive.
Visitation will be Friday, August 16th, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2024 at 2:00pm at Giles Memory Gardens.
