He was a wild hard working father who never met a stranger.
John was born on August 11 in Charleston, WV to Alen S. Anderson and Edna Geraldine Britton (Gerry). Grew up some in Okinawa, Japan after World War II.
He attended University of Texas A&M and graduated from University of Nebraska with BBA in Business.
Career:
Went through rank of sergeant, then Officer Candidate School Ft. Sill, OK.
Captain of Artillery Battery in Vietnam (C Battery, 3rd Howitzer Battalion, 13th Field Artillery,25th Infantry Division), Real Estate Agent Omaha, NB; Manager for Texgas LPG Madisonville, KY; and Memphis TN, Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for Carter Wallace, Memphis, TN.
Served at (ARCPAC)? St. Louis MO in late 1980’s early 1990’s, became good friends with Colonel G.C. Lewis of Memphis, TN.
Was in 121st ARCOM shooting team, which practiced at the old Memphis Gun Club, now Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN.
Served in Korea where he met and married Helen Claire Dayhoff leading to the birth of his Children:
He was navigator in the Grumman Mohawk surveillance and light strike aircraft.
Finished his career at Fort Gorden, GA on the Medical Board, using his vast research skills and medical knowledge. After the military, he helped many to be “Boarded” by the Medical Board’s and get proper and better disability ratings, leading to much improved retirements for service members. He last duty was hosting a large Conference at Ft. Gorden.
Other Notables:
Would not let his children attend rock concerts except chauffeured by his truly, ensuring a safe and good time.
Would take kids hunting, on a Carribean cruise, pour concrete pads, build secondary structures, tell great war stories.
Was consummate traveler, visiting his many of his extended Family and Friends.
A funeral service will be held at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 2 P.M (14:00 HRS).
