John Martin Bowling, Sr. Profile Photo John Martin Bowling Sr., 76, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, at NHC-Columbia. Born on December 8, 1947, to the late James and Emma Bowling, John grew up with a passion for life, family, and faith that guided him through every chapter of his journey.

John married the love of his life, Ruby Delores Huckabay Bowling, 57 years ago, embarking together on a beautiful adventure filled with devotion and mutual joy. Together, they raised two sons, Marty and Jamie, instilling in them values of kindness, hard work, and generosity. A proud father, John was also a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, whose love for family knew no bounds.

An avid hunter and gardener, John loved spending time outdoors, cultivating a vegetable garden that flourished under his green thumb. Known for his generosity, he delighted in sharing the bounty of his garden with his neighbors and his church family. John was also a talented cook who took joy in feeding others, serving for years as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and contributing to community gatherings.

A devout Christian, John was a longtime, beloved member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. He found great joy in serving his faith community, particularly in helping prepare meals for the youth group “Blast” on Wednesday nights. His commitment to others extended well beyond his family, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

John also enjoyed simple pleasures, like hosting yard sales with Ruby, where they made countless memories together.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son: Marty Bowling, and his sisters Lucille McIntosh and Ollie Jane Bowling. John leaves behind his devoted wife, Ruby Delores Bowling; his son, Jamie (Britney) Bowling; grandchildren Scott Tucker Bowling, Campbell Bowling, Brittany Winstead, John Martin Bowling III, and Christopher Bowling; great-grandchildren: Blake, Karter, and Ryleigh Winstead; and siblings Jimmy and Tammy Bowling.

His legacy of love, service, and kindness will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who knew him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, CNAs, and staff of Caris Hospice and NHC- Columbia. As well as another thank you to Amber, Tonya, and Sam for their care and compassion given to John, and his dedicated and caring neighbors: Gilbert and Rusty.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. The service for John will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee with Frank Webb officiating. John will be laid to rest at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
