John Marion Brown – Obituary

A celebration of the life of John Marion Brown, age 75, of Fayetteville will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Mr. Brown passed away Tuesday July 22nd, 2014 in Huntsville Hospital.
Given the names of John, for his paternal grandfather, and Marion, for his maternal grandfather, John Marion Brown was born May 9, 1939 in Lincoln County, TN. He ended his 75 year earthly journey peacefully in the presence of his wife, Evelyn Askins Brown and their daughter, Denise Brown Taylor. His is also survived by his son-in-law David Taylor, grandsons Jon William Taylor and Major Taylor, granddaughter Meredith Taylor, sisters June (Herman) Blankenship and Gail (Rex) Sanders, brother Jerry Wayne (Jean) Brown, sister-in-law Jean Woodard and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Wiley Henry Brown and mother Emma Bean Brown.
He served his country with the 1st Calvary Company D Battalion Group E4 Ranger attachment during the Vietnam War era. He was a life-long member of the Moore County Historical Society, and a member of the American Legion Post 142. A great supporter of the Fayetteville Swim Team, while his daughter was on the team, he volunteered to drive the bus carrying the team to competitions in the Tennessee Valley Region.
After retirement from a world renowned manufacturer, he especially enjoyed spending time with family. He often said his grandchildren rejuvenated him. He found pleasure also in working outdoors and cooking.
A member of the church of Christ, he worshipped with the Liberty congregation. He will long be remembered as an encourager to all and a peacemaker with an exceptional gift to make those around him know that he loved them unconditionally.
Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 5-7 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Rainbow Omega, PO Box 740, Eastaboga, AL 36260. He took great delight in hearing his grandchildren talk about their volunteering at Rainbow Omega. Rainbow Omega’s mission is to glorify God by ensuring that adults with developmental disabilities have a permanent and safe home where their abilities and potentials are respected and nurtured in a Christian environment.
