Johnny, as he was lovingly known, loved yard work, and could grow any plant or flower he put his hands on. Rescue animals and abused animals became a true passion of his life. No animal was too small or too large if it needed a home, or just help to find its owner. More times than one, has he taken dogs, cats, even birds, and when no owner could be found, he’d say we have to hold the animal till he could search a little longer for owners or till he could find them new homes and many times they found a home and it would be ours. John was a lifelong resident of Colbert County.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Lindsey Jones; sister, Carolyn Willis and husband, Joe Willis+; and brother, Steven Lindsey. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Sandra Hardwick (Ron); older brother, Gary Lindsey (Jeanette); sisters, Sharon Zahnd (John) and Jane Aycock (Kenny); and his dogs, Toby, the love of his life and a little mutt, Maggie, who made her home here, along with two stray cats, Peanut and JayJay.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Lewis, Steven Grissom, Kevin Willis, Jay Creasy, Jason Creasy and Phillip Creasy.
John would want to thank his doctor, Dr. Don Heinkle, nurse practitioner, Heather Fritts, nurse, Jackie and Cynthia and Heather Townsend from the lab. He would also want to thank Larry and Linda Smallwood, Jim and Ruthie Matthews; brother-in-law, Ron Hardwick for all you have done through the years, and cousin, Marilyn McAfee, who would come and take him out, just to get him out of the house.
