John Harold Clayton, 83, died May 18, 2016 from complications of Parkinson’s. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Z. Clayton and Elizabeth Ann Clayton, and daughter, Valerie.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Smith Clayton; daughter, Jena Clayton Barrett, and son-in-law, Colin Barrett.
John was a civil engineer who traveled the world working on bridges, sewers and dams. John loved music, books, maps, and airplanes. He enjoyed people and when he met someone, always asked, “Where are you from?” He could talk to anyone about their hometown.
John will be buried in the family cemetery in Wayne County, Tennessee in a private ceremony with services to be conducted by Rev. Kerry Franks and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Davidson, Adam Davidson, Sonny Smith, Andrew Smith, and Paul Franks.
John had many stories and much love to share and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to one’s favorite charity.
