John Franklin HayesJohn Franklin Hayes, age 82, of Nashville, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the TriStar Skyline Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 7pm Monday, October 28 at the Madison Church of Christ, 106 Gallatin Pike N., Madison, TN with Andy Connelly, Mark Hayes, Steven Hayes and James Hayes officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11am Tuesday, October 29, in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1150 Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN.

The family will receive friends from 1pm until time of the service at 7pm Monday, at the church.

Mr. Hayes was born February 24, 1942, in Ironton, OH, to the late Frank Hayes and the late Gertrude Myers Hayes. He lived in Linnville (Willow Wood) in Lawrence County, OH for many years and graduated from Ironton High School in 1960, where he served as senior class president. He began preaching in 1961, at the age of 19. Mr. Hayes received his B.A. from Lipscomb University in 1964, and his M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University. He did additional graduate studies at the University of Chattanooga and Tennessee State University. Mr. Hayes was a part-time preacher and primarily preached in Ohio and Tennessee, with most of those years being at the Ironton Church of Christ in Ironton, OH, Old Union Church of Christ in Castalian Springs, TN, Nashville Road Church of Christ in Gallatin, TN, and Beech Grove Church of Christ in Columbia, TN. He taught thousands of high school students throughout his life, teaching 3 years at Rock Hill High School in Ironton, OH, and 50 years at Goodpasture Christian High School in Madison, TN. Mr. Hayes retired from teaching in 2017.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Hoover Hayes. They were married on October 7, 1967. She was the love of his life. They had celebrated 35 years of marriage at the time of her death in 2003.

He is survived by his sons, Mark (Meredith) Hayes, Steven Hayes, and James (Vera) Hayes; 5 grandchildren, Jordan (Chris) Burkepile, Caitlin Hayes, Maddie Gibbs, Chase Gibbs, and Will Gibbs; and 1 great grandchild, Ellisyn Burkepile.

Pallbearers include past and current Goodpasture staff: Bryan Ayer, Ben Dennis, Keith Edwards, Roger Hamlett, Daniel Knox, David Martin, Andy McWilliams, Dustin Patton, Lee Phillips, and Ronnie Sarver.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Pilkinton, Dr. Megan Settle, Dr. Kirk Barnes, Dr. Dale Pilkinton, Dr. Allen Bush, Dr. Keith Loven, the medical staff at Skyline Medical Center, and the staff at Maybelle Carter Senior Living for the compassionate care they provided throughout the years.
