John Ewing Somerville

Age 88 of Portland went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Portland Medical Center. He was born August 3, 1933 in Springfield, TN to Clarence and Lena Somerville. He proudly served his country as an MP in the U.S. Army during Korea and was retired from Peterbilt. He was a member of American Legion Post #206 and Cedar Grove Methodist Church in Cross Plains, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline Somerville; son, John Thomas Somerville; granddaughter, Cindy Somerville; 4 brothers, Harold Somerville, Lloyd “Popeye” Somerville, Floyd Somerville and Blonnie Somerville. He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Kathy) Somerville and Harold (Jo) Searcy, both of Portland, TN; daughter, Beverly Hodges, GA; sisters, Clarice Stewart, Murfreesboro, TN and Edith Camp, Smyrna, TN;; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 31, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Bro. Terrell Somerville officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers and with military honors. Visitation with the family is planned for Monday, January 31, 2022 12pm until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
