John Evan Carson, 69, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2021 surrounded by his family.
John was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Howard Rudolph Carson and Eva Belle Sandberg on October 6, 1951. He graduated from Central High School in 1969.
He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and upon returning home married, had two children, and worked as a grocery manager for Lund’s supermarkets for over 33 years in Minnesota, but his real passion was writing. He wrote poems and stories starting at a young age and was able to retire early after publication of his first book, Ramblin’ Rose and the Internet Newsletter and move to Huntsville to be near his grandchildren. During his busy retirement, eleven published books followed, as well as many poems and articles in various periodicals and newsletters. He started a successful creative writing class, which he was still actively teaching, at the Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center running for over seven years. At the same time, John joined American Legion Post 237 and quickly became involved in many ways, writing for the newsletter, photographer, and serving on the Honor Guard, which was one of the things he was most proud of. In addition to being a part of many veteran organizations, he started a non-profit which matches shelter animals with veterans with PTSD. He still found time to start a business with his two daughters, CBA Publishing Services, aimed at helping authors achieve their dream of seeing their book in print. John was always looking for ways to be of service to people.
John is survived by his wife, Marlene Rose Carson of Huntsville, two daughters, Christine Marie Brown and Anna Talyn Carson, five siblings, Diane Shea, Gail Ripley, Juliet Anderson, Howard Carson and Ted Carson, and four grandchildren, Abigail Rose Brown, Ethan John Brown, Maliyah Marcella Carson, and Emmett William Carson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eva Belle Carson, father, Howard Rudolph Carson, brothers Mark Steven Carson and William Carson and infant twin sisters.
Funeral service will be held at North Hills Church at 11319 US-231-N, Meridianville, Alabama on Sunday, May 2nd at 2 PM with Reverend Adam Tisdale officiating. Reception to follow.
Memorial donations in John’s name may be made to the America Legion Post 237 Honor Guard at 2900 Drake Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to so many who have supported us in numerous ways through this past year during this difficult journey.
