JOHN DOUGLAS MALONE SR. was born August 30, 1922, to Columbus (Son) Malone and Josie (Inman) Malone in Limestone County Alabama. He died December 29, 2023, in his home in Madison, Alabama surrounded by his loving wife and other family members.
He was a veteran of the US Army during World War II.
He farmed for many years before being hired at Redstone Arsenal where he worked until retirement.
He married Mary V. Jones (Malone) and to this union was born seven children and a stepdaughter. He accepted Christ later in life and joined the Mt. Vernon PB Church under the leadership of Rev. S.L. Malone where he served as a Deacon for several years.
He was a great provider for his family and community with the gardens he grew. He was a great mentor for many young men who were always around the house with his sons, and the grandsons who he helped to raise. He was an entrepreneur who owned Malone Used Appliances. He married Avis V. Brocks on Sept. 17, 1999, who was faithful until his death.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Avis V. (Brocks) Malone, four sons, John D. Jr.(Mary Ann), Ervin (Linda Sue), Louis (Sharon) Malone of Rockford, II, Milton (Bobbie) Malone, Athens, Alabama, four daughters Geraldine (Joe) Green, Lima, Ohio, Josie Malone, Deloise Martin, Huntsville, Alabama, Sylvia Pickett, Madison Alabama, Thirty-four grandkids and a host of great grandkids, nieces, nephews and a special nephew Billy King of Athens Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Donell, Henry, Finess Edward Malone and Eugene Cosby, Sisters Pearline Malone and Addie Bea (Malone) Bailey, Daughter Dizzie Baker, grandsons Steven Horton, Milton Malone Jr., granddaughters Vickey Baker and Delesha Cosby.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Round Island Mission Center (13829 Lucas Ferry Road, Athens, AL 35611) with Pastor Louis Malone officiating. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Mr. Malone will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
Public viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, and 8:30 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Royal Funeral Home.
