John David Capps, 85, of Huntsville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 19, 2019. John was a graduate of Pembroke High School and Austin Peay State University. He served in the U.S. Army and subsequently worked for NASA. During his 33 year career with NASA, he was awarded both the Exceptional Achievement Medal and Exceptional Service Medal. He was a member of the Hubble Space Telescope team and the Mars Lander team. John served as deacon for many years in Lincoln Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Trenton, KY. Most recently, he was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Linda Glover Capps; daughters, Denise Corr (Ken) and Debra Fluker (Tom); son, Charles Capps (Nancy); grandchildren, Zachary Corr (Angela), Kate Fluker, Rachel Nager (Chris), Susan Bowermaster (Shane), Caleb Fluker (Rachel), Caroline Corr, Eliza Capps, Charlotte Corr, Hannah Fluker, and Benjamin Capps; 3 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Hubble.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 26th, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Trenton Baptist Church in Trenton, KY. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Trenton, KY. There will be a visitation at Whitesburg Baptist Church Recreation Center, Huntsville, AL on Sunday, January 27th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
