John Dalton Spires, Jr. – Obituary

John Dalton Spires, Jr. of Tuscumbia passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the age of 75. His visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. He will lie-in-state at the First Baptist Church of Colbert Heights from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Seth Hood and Steve Hood officiating. Burial will be in the Isbell Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
John was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Colbert Heights and was a retired Coating Technician for the Gas and Oil Pipelines. He was also a member of the Labor Local # 366 and the Operating Engineers Local # 640. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Sr. and Susie Spires; and brother, Jimmy Spires.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Spires; son, John Spires, III (Patricia); daughters, Robin Hobbs and Renee Spires; brothers, Billy Spires and Hubert Spires; sister, Connie Baugher (Bill); sister-in-law, Claudia Spires; eight grandchildren, Polissa Campbell (Josh), Chris Garner, Austin Spires, Tyler Hobbs, Jordan Spires, Alex Spires, Luke Spires, and Dakota Ragan; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John Spires, III, Chris Garner, Austin Spires, Tyler Hobbs, Alex Spires, and Jordan Spires. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Campbell, Harold Spires, Jody Marcum, Bob Lusk, Will T. McCoy, and Dakota Ragan. Special Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Colbert Heights Baptist Church.
Special thanks to the Helen Keller ICU nurses and staff and respiratory nurses and Dr. Brian Richards, and Dr. Ronald McCoy and staff.
