John Byron Hollis, 54, a resident of Ooltewah, Tennessee and a native of Florence, Alabama, passed away on September 17, 2016. He was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Byron was born on March 22, 1962 to John and Jean (Hubbard) Hollis. He was a graduate of Wilson High School, Auburn University and Jones School of Law.
Byron served as a Sheriff’s Deputy and Assistant District Attorney for Lee and Randolph Counties in Alabama. He had a brief private practice while living in Abanda, Alabama. Upon moving to Chattanooga, Tennessee, he became the Investigations Coordinator for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee where he worked for many years. A marriage and another move took him to Washington DC, where he became the Managing Director, National Anti-Fraud for BlueCross BlueShield Association, where he remained until his death.
He loved GOD, his family, hunting and fishing and Auburn University (WAR EAGLE!!). Papa Byron was adored by his granddaughters who helped him with his walking stick and put many band-aids on his many boo-boos.
He is survived by his loving wife, Claudette Smith Hollis; parents, John and Jean Hollis; siblings, Wendal Hollis and Sylvia Stephenson (Keith); two stepsons, Zack Thacker and Wes Thacker (Amanda); granddaughters, Olivia, Lily and Emmy. He had one niece, Brooklyn and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, (paternal) Dewey Roosevelt Hollis and Nadine Pruitt Hollis, (maternal) Marvin T. Hubbard and Phoebe Odell Rhodes Hubbard; three uncles, Dewey “Sunny Boy” Hollis, Marvin Neal “Catfish” Hubbard, Quillen “Tee” Hubbard and one aunt, Sybil Hollis Andres.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Varner Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
