John Buen “J.B.” Mills, age 94, of Phil Campbell, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
J.B. was drafted and proudly served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the most tenderhearted and honest man you could hope to meet, and never wanted to hurt anyone. He loved his wife of 71 years, Betty, and they enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables together and he was always considerate of her feelings. They shared a lifetime of devoted love and wonderful memories. He enjoyed spending time with his special friends, HD, MC, JD Ergle over the years. His children and grandchildren was the life of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Betty Mae King Mills; children, Pat Mills, Larry Mills; grandson, Kelvin Baker, great-granddaughter, Celia Ann; father, Wallace Monroe Mills; mother, Martha Beatrice (Latham) Ewing; siblings, Ralph Wallace Mills, Myrl Ergle, Robert Lee Mills; and special friends, HD Ergle, MC Ergle, and JD Ergle.
He leaves to cherish his memories, children, Donna Johnson (Melvin), Eddie Mills, Glenda Ergle (Rodney), Sherry O’Kelley (Hershel); grandchildren, Crystal Lohenis (Bill), Kim Wilson (Kenny), Amy Rupley (George), Kevin Johnson, Eric Mills, Payton Mills, Jonathan Mills, Mayson Mills, Curtis Baker (Tiffany), Joshua Baker, Brandon Hallman, Toni Hester (Jason), Sheldon Ergle, Brandy Baker (Kevin), Heather Aldridge (Gary), Shane Baker (Emily), Jessica Kirby (Zack); 32 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Jean Posey; and a host of nieces & nephews.
The visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Darryl Whitehead and Bro. Benjamin Phillips speaking at the service. Military honors will be at the end of the service. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
