John "Billy" William Gowan Mr. John “Billy” William Gowan, age 84, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2022, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with David Morris officiating.  Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.  A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Born on December 28, 1937, in Williamson County, Tennessee, Billy was the son of the late Fate Franklin Gowan and the late Martha Elizabeth Tomlin Gowan. On June 2, 1958, Billy married Barbie Ree Webb.  He was a member of Highland Park Church of Christ.   Billy worked for many years as a serviceman for Pepsi-Cola.  He enjoyed rabbit hunting with his hunting dogs, fishing, and watching Tennessee sports, especially the Tennessee Vols.  He truly was an outdoorsman.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Kenneth (Debra) Gowan of Columbia, daughter, Lisa (Troy) Maupin of Bedford County, twin brothers, Harry Gowan and Larry Gowan of Columbia, grandchildren, Brandon, Kendall, Chase and Jared Gowan.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Gowan, Charles Gowan, Sammy Gowan, and sisters, Francis Hall, Barbara Shrimsler and Ruth Hall.

 

Serving as pallbearers are Troy Maupin, Brandon Gowan, Chase Maupin, Jared Maupin, Jimmy Waters, and Nelson Webb. Honorary pallbearers will be L.G. White, Steve Webb, Clyde Kelley, Gary Knox, Jerry Brady, and Buddy Smith.
