John Bedinger Gregg, age 102, of Brentwood, TN, was born in 1921 and passed away May 23. Preceeded in death by Nancy Holman Gregg, his wife of 66 years, and daughter Barbara Leigh Gregg, both of Charlottesville, VA, he is survived by his son, John H Gregg of Spring Hill, TN, his daughter Martha Gregg Demetrion of Paris, France; and his 2nd wife Arleen Hilgenhurst Gregg of Brentwood. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother Col Clifford Gregg, USAR, (director and then president of the Field Museum of Natural History) and Marian V. Gregg; and brothers CDR Frank V. Gregg, USN, and Clifford C. Gregg, Jr. A Celebration of Life was held at Church of the Good Shepherd in Brentwood and another Celebration of Life will be held at Church of Our Savior in Charlottesville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Episcopal Diocese Region XV Mission with the Elderly in Charlottesville, where he served as president for several years. Born in Boston, MA on December 15, 1921, John Bedinger Gregg was raised in Park Ridge, IL. He graduated from Lawrence College in Appleton, WI. He left from there directly to the US Army in WWII. He served as a lieutenant in WWII and the Korean War and retired as a Regular Army Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years service. He worked for the University of Virginia and lived in Charlottesville, VA for 43 years after his military service. He will be buried in Charlottesville, VA.
