John Allen Sandlin, 90, of Cold Springs, Alabama passed away at South Hampton Nursing and Rehab in Owens Cross Roads on October 11, 2022.

Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. on October 14, 2022, at Moss Service Funeral Home in Cullman, Alabama. Pastor Allen Speegle, his nephew, will officiate. Visitation will be 10-11 A.M., prior to the funeral service. A military graveside service will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Crane Hill, Alabama.

John joined the Air Force in 1953 serving as a flight engineer and flight line supervisor. He also worked for Civil Services in aircraft quality control and retired as Chief Master Sergeant from the Air Force in May, 1992. John was the owner of the Country Mall in Crane Hill from 1980-1990.

John considered one of his proudest accomplishments being ordained as a deacon in August, 1994. He served at Bethany and Smith Lake Baptist Churches.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Hilda Perdue Sandlin, son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Glenda Sandlin and parents, Lacy and Olma Sandlin.

John “Pop” is survived by his daughter, Tonya (Ben) Gilliland; Grandchildren, Jonathan Suchey, Kynlie Pearson, Michael (Justin) Sandlin,; Sisters, Barbara Faye Speegle and Betty Sue (Tom) Pope; Step-children and great granddaughter, Calrey (David) Croswell, Colin (Layna) Gilliland, Ellison Gilliland and a host of special nieces, nephews, family and friends that he held dear to his heart.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the staff at South Hampton Nursing and Rehab, Champion Therapy work family, and Hospice of North Alabama for taking such good care of Pop.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Smith Lake Baptist Church Building Fund or the Bethany Community Cemetery both in Crane Hill, in his memory.
