Funeral Services for Mr. Joey “Fat Rabbit” Higgins, age 52 of Delta, will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Christiana Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ben Milam and Rev. Wayne Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Higgins passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at UAB Hospital. He was born in Anniston, but was a lifelong resident of Clay County. He attended Barfield Elementary School, and following 8th grade, he began helping his dad at the Automotive Core business in Delta until the age of 18. He worked with Agra-Builders until the age of 21, where he then joined truck driving school and obtained his commercial trucking license. He worked as a truck driver for over 30 years; working primarily for Proline Carriers out of Tennessee, his own trucking business, H&H Farms, and also for Pate’s trucking. Mr. Higgins enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to Auctions. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed taking stuff apart and figuring out how to put it back together. Mr. Higgins was full of life, always had a smile on his face, and his pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He loved to joke around and carry on, but would always look out for everyone, and didn’t know a stranger. Mr. Higgins was a man of God, a family man, and a man that loved his church, Bellview Baptist.

Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lisa Higgins of Delta; seven children: Shannon Wingo (Alex) of Eastaboga, Tiffany Smith (Travis) of Millerville, Ashton Higgins (Mckennzee) of Lineville, Ashley Mitchell (Dalton), Luke Higgins, Auburn and Harlie Higgins, all of Delta; seven grandchildren: Alexa and Emma Smith, Sawyer and Ryleigh Wingo, Oaklee and Elainey Higgins, and Weston Mitchell; his mother, Mary Sue Clarke of Lineville; one sister, Miranda Jordan; and one brother, Christian Higgins (Tanya), both of Lineville; plus a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Randy Lee Higgins; and his mother in law, Norma Friar.

Active Pallbearers will be Ashton Higgins, Noah Higgins, Tanner Higgins, Brent Taylor, Michael Mitchell, Dylan Morrison, Collin Gossage, and Jason Jordan. Honorary Pallbearers will be the L&H Hunting Club Members.

Mr. Higgins visitation will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. There will be no visitation at the church prior to services on Sunday.
