Joel MacDaniel Skinner was born on December 18, 1993 to Joseph William Skinner II and Vicki Johnson Skinner. Joel entered into the loving arms of Jesus on November 20, 2023. Joel grew up in Walnut, Mississippi surrounded by nature, his family, and the members of the Walnut Volunteer Fire Department. From a young age, Joel watched his parents volunteer their time to help others in need. He accompanied his mom and his dad on many emergency calls, and this inspired him to pursue a career in medicine. Joel was a 2012 honor graduate of Walnut High School where he competed with the Math and Science Team, and won several scholarships at academic competitions across the state. After graduation, Joel pursued a degree in nursing from Northeast Mississippi Community College. He graduated in 2015 with his ADN, and spent his career as a registered nurse at Baptist Memorial emergency department and regional One Health in the trauma emergency room. Joel was a compassionate nurse and the best coworker. He cared deeply for his patients, and his coworkers could always count on him for support, encouragement, and lots of laughter. His family and friends defined Joel as an “old soul”. He loved to read, drink coffee, and cook with his wife and stepson. Ever the outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his wife in their garden. Joel also enjoyed working on projects that allowed him to turn his house into a home. Joel was welcomed into his heavenly home by his grandparents Mack Arthur Johnson, Danna Rose Hines Johnson, and Joseph William Skinner I. Joel is survived by his wife, Salinh, and stepson, Rayden, his parents, one sister, Stacy Gibens (Evan), one brother, Jeff Skinner (Piper), one nephew, Wyatt Gibens, and one niece due in July 2024. Joel also leaves behind his grandmother, Betty Bass Skinner. A host of aunts, uncles, and cousins will also carry on his memory and legacy.
