Mr. Joel Gunnels, age 84, of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at his residence.
Mr. Gunnels was born January 16, 1938, in Lamar County, AL, to the late Ross and Annie Gertrude Chaffin Gunnels. He worked as a painter. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, watching football (especially Alabama), watching westerns, and spending time with friends and family. He was married to the late Wanda Gunnels, and was also preceded in death by two brothers, J.W. Gunnels and Carlton Gunnels, and his sister, Annie Grace Patrick.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 11, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with David Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Pennington, Curtis Heatherly, Stan Gunnels, Bobby Standridge, Tommy Standridge, David Gunnels, Kevin Gunnels, Steve Patrick, and Keith Box.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela (Buddy) Hudson of Hamilton, MS, Rosalie (Ricky) Turner of Vernon, AL, and Kimberly (John Paul) Robertson of Vernon, AL; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Jess) Barnes, Christopher (Brianne) Turner, Tori Ballenger, Summer (Tyler) Edgeworth, Regan (Maken) Potter, Tezzie Robertson, and Seelee Robertson; one step-granson, Jesse Hudson; ten great-grandchildren, Kayln Turner, Beau Barnes, Jessie Rose Barnes, Knox Barnes, Rylee Barnes, Titus Paul Edgeworth, Silas Edgeworth, Benjamin Edgeworth, Addie Turner, and Liam Turner; one step-great-grandson, Brennan Sorrells; one sister, Mary Lucas, of Vernon, AL; and one brother, James (Ruth Ellen) Gunnels, of Vernon, AL.
