Joel B. Burt It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joel Burt, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us on March 23 at the age of 71. Joel was a man known for his warmth, generosity, and infectious sense of fun. His life was defined by joviality, hospitality, and a genuine interest in everyone he met. Despite the challenges of multiple strokes over the past seven years, Joel remained resilient, always striving to live life fully with his beloved wife, Angela, by his side. Joel shared 47 years of love and companionship with Angela, often saying, “She is a good one,” his favorite expression of admiration for her.

Joel had a remarkable gift for connecting with others, a trait reflected in his diverse and colorful career. He wore many hats throughout life—meat market manager, construction worker, Fort Payne City School bus driver, golf superintendent, and restaurant owner. Joel co-owned JT’s Fish House with his lifelong friend, Tommy Banks, and, in retirement, he and Angela ran an antique shop together. His adventurous spirit and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Joel will be dearly missed, but his legacy of laughter and love will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Angela; his daughters, Staci Mackey and her husband Greg of Cedar Bluff, AL, and Dee Dee Martz and her husband Reed of Lookout Mountain, TN; his cherished grandchildren, Gabriel Martz, Margaret Martz, Jonathan Martz, Anna Martz, and Claire Martz; his sister, Kandi Burt; and his beloved pets, Peppy and Sassy Mae, who brought him much joy. Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Jeanette Burt.

A memorial visitation to celebrate the life of Joel will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Full Gospel Church, c/o Rev. James Wells, 16070 US Hwy 411 North, Centre, AL 35960. Joel cherished his new church community and would be honored to support their efforts to improve accessibility for those with mobility challenges.
