Mr. Joel Antonio Hoffman, age 88, of Old Hickory, TN, died Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Summit Medical Center. He was born September 07, 1935, in Grey Eagle Township, Minnesota and was preceded in death by his parents Ferdinand and Sibenia Green Hoffman, wife of 18 years Vivian Joyce Hoffman who passed away on April 13, 2023, and by four of his siblings.
Joel Hoffman was an avid car lover, especially classic muscle cars, with his favorite being the Pontiac GTO. He opened his own body shop in Nashville, Hoffman’s Body Shop, in 1970. He also raced cars at Highland Rim and Union Hill, winning many trophies. His body shop sponsored cars at the raceways after he stopped racing them himself.
Joel served in the Army for 4 years, and was proud of his service to our country. He also loved to hunt, fish, work on his farm, go to NASCAR races, and collect guns. He loved German Shepherds and often spoke of how much he missed his last one, Teddy. He was devoted to his family, and enjoyed spending holiday weekends with them at his farm, where they would fish and ride four-wheelers, and end with a big fish fry.
Survivors include his children Anthony Sloan, Kim (Eric) Sloan, Shelley (Jessie “Bubba”) Josey, Greg Proctor, and Kim (Dean) Birdwell, daughter-in-law Tena Sloan, sister Rosella Mott, grandchildren Jensen Sloan, Zac (Hannah) Johnson, Daniel (Kaelynn) Waggoner, and David “Little Anthony” Koehler, honorary great-grandchild Cruz Adams, and great grandchildren Aiden Johnson, Hadley Johnson, Walker Waggoner, Ruby Waggoner, Kenden Koehler, and Weston Koehler, nephews Ronnie (Sharon) Hoffmann, David (Sharon) Hoffmann, Scott (Shelley) Hoffman, and David Heisrich, niece Mariah Steele, great nephews and great nieces Chaz (Ivie) Hoffmann, Kayla (Dan) Kennedy, Tonya (Gary) Mullins, Jamie Shaw, Levi Hoffman, and Cody Hoffman, and great-great nephews and great-great nieces Tommy Hoffman, Clara Hoffman, Lucy Hoffman, Ryan Kennedy, Austin Kennedy, Lily Mullins, Zane Mullins, Jared Shaw, and Jordan Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, November 18, 2023, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Family will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Noon at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.
