Joel Albert Call, 67, of Huntsville, AL went home to His Lord on Thursday November 30, 2023.
Joel was born on September 2, 1956, in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from Huntsville High School in 1974 and attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He loved fishing and the outdoors and was active in the Boy Scouts attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an excellent card player, gathering many Bridge Master’s points and attending professional poker classes in Las Vegas. Later in life he developed a passion for cooking, leading him to attend training at the Culinary Institute of America in New York.
Joel was an avid historian and voracious reader immersing himself in science fiction audiobooks and the study of the Greek and Roman ages, particularly loving computer games that involved historic event recreations and military capabilities. Who else would you know that was fluent in the creation of aqueducts? That was Joel.
Joel spent his professional life in Huntsville providing production planning services for Avex, Benchmark, and BEA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Call. He is survived by his brother, Steven Call of Huntsville, AL; his sister, Sally Call Burek of La Grange, GA; his brother, Bruce Call of Bradenton, FL; and his beloved nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 9, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life Service following at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
