Joe P. Brown, age 78 of Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be Monday, October 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Jasper First Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Frazier will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church. A private burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Collins-Burke Funeral Home will be directing.
Pallbearers will be Sam Hollingsworth, Jeff Donaldson, Bill Roberts, Tim Nicholson, Don Kilgore, and Jason Brown.
Joe was born on July 24, 1946 as the only child of Vance and Edna Brown. He delighted in telling stories of growing up with his cousins Rick, Brian, Eddie, and Gary Brown. He and Rick were often mistaken for brothers and thought of each other as such.
Joe graduated from Walker High School, University of Alabama, and LSU Graduate School of Banking. He then spent his entire career serving the people of Walker and surrounding counties with their financial needs. He began his career at a small bank over Bernards before becoming President of the original Bank of Walker County before it became Colonial Bank. He spent the last 20 plus years as Executive Vice President of First National Bank, now Synovous.
He was an avid Crimson Tide football fan, a longtime Deacon, and Men’s Sunday school teacher at Jasper First Baptist Church. He also served as a member of the Rotary Club and enjoyed singing with the Men’s Chorale.
Despite the health troubles he suffered over the last 10 years, Joe’s faith and love of Jesus never waivered. He was a strong Christian who loved everyone and had a huge heart for forgiveness.
Joe was preceded in death by Wife-Mary “Bonnie” Brown; Parents-Vance and Edna Brown; Grandson-Joe “JP” Brown.
He is survived by his Son and Daughter-in-law-David and Tracy Brown; Grandchildren-Ansley Brown, Skyler Brown, and Anna Bowman; Great Grandchildren-Novaleigh Brown, Adelynn Bowman, and Kaden Bowman.
