Joe J. Walker, 76, passed away Tuesday.

A Huntsville native, Joe was born to Margaret Hobbs Walker and Joseph Payne Walker. Joe was very proud of his heritage as a descendant of the John Hobbs family, owner of Hobbs Island, where the oldest headstone in Madison County is found (James Finnel Hobbs, 1817).

Joe graduated from Huntsville High School in 1964 and attended the University of Alabama. He began a long career in banking with SouthTrust Bank, where he met his future wife, Karen “Krikit” Taormina. They were married for 38 years before her death in 2011.

Joe was an avid sports fan and loved Alabama football. He coached the SouthTrust women’s softball team during his time there.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Survivors include his children, Teri Walker Neiland (Bill), Tiffany Walker Davis (Stevan), and Jonathan Walker (Laura); grandchildren, Clay and Callie Neiland, Nicolas and Noah Davis, and Emily Walker; twin brother, Jim Walker (Carol); and four legged babies, Harley and Brylee.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held.
