Joe Henry Reid, Jr. 66 Years old passed away on November 10, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Rid was born January 20, 1948, to Joe Henry Reid, Sr. and Lois Movillee Hill Reid. The family will hold a Memorial Service at a later date. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bud and Susie Reid of Danville, and Arthur Hill and Lillie Mae Tankley Hill of Neel, a younger brother: Jackie Reid and his parents. Survivors include; Two Daughters: Charlotte Faye Reid and Jodie Mae Reid Champion both of Danville, Two Sisters: Sue Robertson (Lanny), Wetumpka, and Jana Reid Terry (Mike), Hartselle, and Two Grandchildren: Samantha Standridge and Morrigan Champion and Brad Rooks, of Texas, who has been a brother to his daughters and the son he never had.
Mr. Reid worked for Joe Wheeler EMC for 35 years as a lineman and worked on substations until his health began to fail and forced him to retire in 2003. He traveled to many states after hurricanes and other disasters trying to restore power while working with Joe Wheeler EMC. Sometimes working 20 hours a day, in snow storms, we saw him come home and get more clothes and leave to try and get power restored. He also farmed cows and horses. His passion was his horses, we would ride in Bankhead Forest. He was always helping others. People would stop and ask for help and he would stop what ever he was doing and help whoever was in need. Always baling and hauling hay for others. His wishes were to be cremated and ashes placed in Bankhead Forest.
Mr. Reid was diagnosed finally with Gullian Barre, an Auto Immune disease, that mimics a stroke. He could not walk anymore, had not much feeling in his legs and numbness in his arms and it also affected his swallowing. Many CT scans showed he did not have a stroke. He has lived with his youngest daughter, Charlotte Faye Reid, for the last three years. Mr. Reid’s mind was sharp but his body was failing him. He had been in and out of the hospital for the last three years. Anyone who knew him, being unable to walk took a toll on someone so active and hardworking. The last three years living with his daughter, Charlotte, were a blessing everyday. She loved her father with all her heart and did the best she could to take care of him since she herself had had 4 back surgeries and other health issues. He passed away in his sleep, and hopefully did not suffer. He was a good man that made mistakes in life, but who among us hasn’t.
Charlotte would like to thank Gentiva Home Health, Caregivers of the Valley, my friends and co-workers, who would come take care of Dad while I was hospitalized for surgeries and in for pnuemonia. Special Thanks to Beth Morris for helping me get my dad ready for the Funeral Home and being with me yesterday. Thanks to everyone for all the calls and kind words. No matter what you are never ready for losing a parent, I am still in shock. To my mom, Bertha Mae Dunn Reid, who helped me take care of my dad everyday. even though they had been divorced several years, “I could not have done it without you, momma. I love you so much”. Not many women would have done what you did for dad and I in the past three years. Also a special thanks to Sue and Jana for always being there for me and checking on me. “I appreciate it more than you will ever know”.
