Joe Foster Lewis age 89 passed away March 4, 2019 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born January 27, 1930, in Chester County the son of the late Gus E. and Lucille Foster Lewis. He attended Chester County Schools, graduating CCHS in 1949 and then graduated Freed-Hardeman College in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army in 1952 serving in the Korean War returning in 1954. He was then employed by the TN National Guard in Memphis from 1954 until 1975, retiring from the Guard. In 1975 he began working for the Jackson Fire Department and worked there until his retirement in 1992.
He served on the Jackson City Council from January 1989 thru June 1991.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Memphis since 1954.
Mr. Lewis is survived by three sisters, Maxine McNatt of Jackson, TN, Martha Skaggs of Oklahoma City, OK and Ann Beckworth of New Albany, MS.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home with a private family service.
