A Celebration of Life for Mr. Joe E. Thompson 89, of Decatur, Alabama, who passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his residence will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10:00AM- 12:00PM at the home of Shirley James, 3217 Sweetbriar Road, SW, Decatur, Alabama 35603. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joe E. Thompson Scholarship Fund by mailing a check to 1401 Fairway Drive SE, Decatur, AL 35601.
Joe Ed Thompson was born June 18, 1934, in Leesville, Louisiana to Samuel D. Hicks Thompson and Myrtie Viola T. Chaumont. He died at his home in Decatur, Alabama surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the age of 89. He was an attorney in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 70 years. He was a great artist and lifelong learner, and a member of the Decatur Men’s Culture Club. He is survived by two sons and daughters-law, Joe and Karen Thompson and Carlos and Gracie Suadi; three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and John Williams, Roxana and David West, and Ivette and Shawn MacQueen; twelve grandchildren, Kira, Cooper, and Liam Williams, Caitlyn and Connor Thompson, Carlos, Callie, and Carson Suadi, Ian and Erin West, and Trey and Maya MacQueen; sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Stuart Nixon, sister Margaret Chaumont, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Margarita Suadi Thompson, and grandson Ryan Christopher Williams
