Joe Calvin Sandlin passed on June 10, 2019 at the age of 85. He was born March 28, 1934 to James Nick and Luvicie Sandlin of Limestone County, AL.
Graveside services for Joe will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Roselawn Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with Eddie Littrell officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Joe was married to Betty Lou (Guess) on August 4, 1953, for almost 66 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy J. Sandlin, and sisters, Margie Hayes, Carolyn Holliday and Francis Fultz.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sandlin; sons, Bryan Scott Sandlin, Kris James Sandlin (Jenny Rogers) and Troy Kevin Sandlin (Dee Denton); daughter-in-law, Sherry Sandlin; 8 grandchildren, James Nick Sandlin, Nathan Andrew Sandlin (Jessica Norwood), Joshua Grant Sandlin (Tiffany Lenoir), Justin Daniel Sandlin (Morgan Ridinger), Colin Asher Sandlin (Shelby Smith), Wesley Ryan Sandlin (Britne Holderby), Calvin David Sandlin (Fiance’- Cheyenne Redus) and Kylie Elizabeth Sandlin; 3 great grandchildren, Cora Grace Sandlin, Trevor Kade Sandlin and Rachel Brooke Sandlin; sisters, Martha Young and Judy Browning; brothers, Malcolm Sandlin (Betty), Larry Sandlin (Brenda) and Jerry Sandlin (Patty) all of Athens.
Joe is a US Coast Guard veteran. He joined the Coast Guard in 1954 and was active for 5 years serving on a buoy tender along the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. He was a lifelong member of the Sardis Springs Church of Christ. Joe was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. Joe retired from 3M in Decatur, AL in 1991.
Joe will be missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
