Joe Billy Hamm, 89, of Guntersville, AL passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville, AL. Joe was the son of the late Loy and Leron (Moore) Hamm of Belk, AL. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years Dorothy (Dot) in 2012. He left behind one child, a son, Terry of Gulf Shores, AL and two grandsons, Will and Cade Hamm, of Guntersville AL, numerous nieces and nephews and his special friend, Miss Billie Stembridge of Fairhope, AL.
He graduated from Kennedy (Alabama) High School in 1952. He was a proud Korean War era Army veteran. He attended Mississippi State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering Technology in 1961.
Joe worked most of his career as an Industrial Engineer. From 1964 to 1977 he worked for Tyrone Hydraulics and their successor Dyna Corporation in Corinth MS. He finished his career with KD Metal Products Corporation and their successor Falcon Products KD Context, Belmont, MS from 1977 until he retired in 1999 as their Materials Control Manager and Purchasing Agent.
It was his love of family, fishing, puzzles, Mississippi State and doting on his grandsons that gave Joe the most pleasure in life.
Joe was an active member and deacon of the Baptist Church. He was a long-time member of Tate Baptist Church (Tate Street Baptist) in Corinth, MS. He was one of the “crazy guys” that convinced the church to buy that “lot in the middle of nowhere” where the church now proudly sits near the high school. He moved to Belmont in 1980 and joined the First Baptist Church. In 2017 when he moved to Guntersville, he joined Creek Path Baptist Church. He continued to enjoy Creek Path’s services in his assisted living in the last few years.
A private memorial service is planned for Joe. He will be buried at Belmont Memorial Gardens, Belmont MS. Joe loved strawberry milk shakes, so a nice way to remember him is to treat yourself to your favorite flavor of milkshake and reminisce about him.
Joe was a cancer survivor (non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma). Unfortunately, ovarian cancer robbed him of years with his beloved wife. In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family requests that donations be made to the following:
O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, WTI 210, 1720 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35294-330
