JoAnne Singleton Stewart, age 85, of Cordova, TN departed this life on September 12, 2023 at her home.
JoAnne was born October 2, 1937 in McNairy County TN, the daughter of the late Frank and Mauline Jamerson Singleton. She graduated from Adamsville High School in 1955. JoAnne worked at various clothing factories in Adamsville until she and her family moved to Memphis in 1965.
JoAnne was a proud and successful small business owner. She owned “Styles By JoAnne, Unique Styles for Unique People,” which was a full service beauty salon for over 40 years. In the last few years before she retired she added clothing and jewelry to her shop and did extremely well.
JoAnne was a member of the National American Business Women’s Association. She joined the local chapter of “The Cotton Belles” and became a founding member of the Memphis Pyramid Chapter. In the Pyramid chapter she served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer, holding some offices more than once. She was voted American Business Women’s Association Woman of the Year and went to Houston, Texas for a special luncheon. She helped the chapter with many fundraising events including decorating Christmas trees at the the Pink Palace Museum and numerous fundraising events for LeBonheur Children’s Hospitals. Being a vital part of the chapter, she attended many spring conferences within the region and national conferences in places such as Washington, D.C., Portland, OR, Denver, CO, Los Angeles, CA, Dallas, TX, St. Louis, MO, New Orleans, LA, and Orlando, FL. She led a very big and fulfilling life.
JoAnne is survived by two daughters, Roxanna Johnson and husband Richard of Myrtle, MS and Jaime Benedict and husband Lan of Cordova, TN; a sister, Linda Browning and husband Larry of Selmer, TN; Brothers-in-law Jerrold Stewart of Mason, TN, Nelson Stewart and wife Becky of Huntington, TN, and Rick Stewart and wife Darlene of Corinth, MS; a sister-in-law, Gail Stewart of Oxford, FL; four grandchildren: Eric Johnson and wife Raquel of Bartlett, TN, Emily Tuberville and husband Jerrid of Myrtle, MS, Joshua Benedict and wife Brittany of Moscow, TN, and Shelby Freeman and husband Tyler of Middleton, TN; nine great-grandchildren: Sarah Johnson, Bethany Tuberville, Jace Tuberville, Corbin Johnson, Cassie and Charlie Johnson, Zoey and Ava Bigham, and Kinsley Freeman. In addition to her family she made many friends over the years. She had lifelong customers that became her very dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bobby Gene Stewart, and two brothers, Billy and James Singleton.
