Joanne Mary Teifer Hodges passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. She entered this life on January 27, 1935 in Ecorse, Michigan. She was the loving daughter of Edwin Teifer and Donna Orton Teifer. A graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge, Michigan. She married Joseph T. Hodges on July 26, 1952 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in River Rouge, Michigan. She had six children, Daniel, Stephen, Patrick, Donna, Joseph, and Jane. She loved volunteering and working for churches; first, at Our Lady of Lourdes in River Rouge, Michigan, then, St. Mary Magdalen in Melvindale, Michigan, then, St. Patrick Church in Madison, Indiana, the, Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kansas; and finally, Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville.
Mrs. Hodges was an excellent seamstress who sewed wedding dresses for two of her daughters-in-law, as well as, countless formals, cheerleading outfits and even a Nun’s habit. She worked as a tax preparer, deputy to a county clerk and a customer service representative. Joanne loved playing bridge and other card games. She loved the socialization that bridge brought into her life and provided an easy introduction into the many states she resided. She had a lively interest in politics and did not hesitate to speak her mind. She, and her husband, excelled in many forms of dancing and thoroughly enjoyed that time together. They served as social chairman at many of his business events.
Joanne will be missed by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Hodges; children, Daniel Hodges (Laura) of Madison, IN, Stephen Hodges (Mary) of Indianapolis, IN, Donna Shergy (William) of Huntsville, AL, Joseph Hodges (Tami) of Washington Grove, MD, and Jane Shivers (Tony) of Madison, AL; daughter-in-law, Adrienne Gallagher of Indianapolis, IN; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Teifer; father, Edwin Teifer; sisters, Lucille Decker and Barbara Chinavare; and son, Patrick Gallagher.
There will be a private family service with a celebration of her life held sometime in the future.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church Perpetual Adoration Chapel fund.
