Joanne Marie Geary Wilson, 68, of Huntsville, peacefully passed away in her home on Friday, October 19th, surrounded by her three loving children and beloved dog.
The daughter of a homemaker and NYC fireman, Joanne was born in Jamaica, New York on March 7, 1950. After moving to Huntsville in 1978, she worked for the Huntsville City Schools in the payroll department, and was the supervisor of that department for 23 years. After retiring in 2014, Joanne enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading, gardening and bowling. Her fun loving personality and spunk were her most endearing and memorable qualities that others loved and will miss so much.
A longtime, faithful member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Joanne loved to serve and minister to people of all ages and walks of life. She served as a Eucharist minister and was involved in other ministries including the ministry to the sick as well as helping instruct religious education classes. She spent many mornings on her front porch swing praying, reading her Bible, and spending time with her beloved dog, Riley.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Josita Geary, and her brother John Coleman Geary. Survivors include her children, James Wilson of Madison, AL, Lori O’Keefe of Denver, CO, and Kelley Yokum of Tampa, FL; 11 precious grandchildren, Carlie, Brooks, Samuel, William, Claire, Isabelle, Abigail, Josiah, Benjamin, Charles, and Joy; and her brother, Robert Geary of Long Island, NY.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, November 5th at Good Shepherd Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. with Father Phil O’Kennedy presiding. A reception will follow at the church.
