Joanne Baker, 81, gained her heavenly wings on November 28th, 2020, and now resides in the presence of the Lord.  She fought a great battle with COVID and lost.

She was born on December 29th, 1938 to Wallace and Wilma Whitaker Gipson.  She grew up in Grant and lived for many years in Honeycomb and later in Guntersville.  She lived her last two years in Huntsville.

Joanne retires as a financial analyst with the US Army.  She will always be remembered as someone exceptionally king, thoughtful and with a “heart of gold”!  she loved the challenge of 1000 piece puzzles, having them framed and giving them away.  She will be truly missed by those that loved her.

She is survived by her husband Wayne “Gene” Baker; daughter Debbie Maples Cobb and her husband Tommy of Lacey’s Spring; son Johnny Maples and his wife Kathy of Owen’s Cross Roads; 5 grandchildren Lori Hale (William), Alan Cobb (Holly), Benjamin Cobb (Elizabeth), Kayla Maples and Brandi Straight (Brandon); and 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters Doreen Bearden (Bill) and Carolyn Wright of Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children Junior Maples and her second husband Top Glover.

The family would like to thank her special caregiver, Jim Dutton, for all the years of dedicated service he provided.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday December 1st, 2020 at Crestview Cemetery with Brother Philip Bradley of the Guntersville Church of Christ officiating.  Marshall Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
