Joann Harrison – Obituary

Joann Harrison passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the age of 86. Ms. Harrison was born in Decatur on May 24, 1929 to Thomas K. Harrison and Alline Poteet Harrison. She was a graduate of Florence State University now known as the University of North Alabama with a degree in Spanish. While at UNA, she received the Keller Key for Scholarship and the Turris Fidelis for Leadership. She was also awarded a Master of Arts Degree in Spanish and English and Ed.S. Education Specialist degree in English and Spanish from Peabody College. Ms. Harrison taught Latin and Spanish for one year at Cullman High School, Spanish and English for nine years at Decatur High School and was a Professor of English and Literature for 20 years at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Ms. Harrison was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her cousins, Lyle Poteet, Dr. J.B. Wiley Jr. and Patty Wiley; numerous other cousins and her caregivers, Betty Troupe, Robin Reynolds and Vicki Penn.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home assisting the family.
