Joan Gehrig Dedrick – Obituary

 Joan Gehrig Dedrick, 88, of Huntsville, passed away Monday at Hospice Family Care, after a long and happy life shortened by Alzheimer’s.

Joan graduated from high school in Shoshone, ID and furthered her education at Idaho State University and the University of Idaho.

She was an excellent homemaker and was actively involved in her children’s activities. Joan was a Master Gardener and a member of the Green Valley Garden Club and the Garden Club of Alabama. In 2010, she was presented a Life Membership to the Garden Club of Alabama. Joan was also active with the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Joan and Keith loved to dance and were active with Square and Round dance clubs. They made many dear friends through their dance adventures. They were also fond of Ballroom dancing.

Later in life, Joan worked for and retired from the Virginia Department of Elections Registrar’s Office.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend, Keith K. Dedrick; parents, Delbert and Flossie Gehrig; and her sister, Patricia Floyd. She is survived by her sister, Norma Morrison; children, Linda Dedrick and David Dedrick (Ann); four granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with Pastor David Henderson officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, ID.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care or the Alzheimer’s Association.
