Funeral for Joan Ellen Dempsey, 60, of Decatur will be Friday, March 7, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rick Davis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dempsey, who died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, was born June 8, 1953, in Athens to Doris Hargrove and Horace Stewart. She was a member of Flint Church of Christ. She retired as a bookkeeper from Decatur City Schools after 23 years of service. Her parents preceded
her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Roger Dempsey; one son, Rod Dempsey (Catherine) of Birmingham; two daughters, Kristie Royer (David) of Decatur and Nikki Sprader (Michael) of Mooresville; her stepfather, Morris Hargrove; two brothers, Allen Stewart and Todd Stewart; and four grandchildren, Hanna Royer, Hunter Royer, Chandler Sprader and Jack Dempsey.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
