Mrs. Jo Ann Vaught Sims Jo Ann Vaught Sims passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Mrs. Sims was born in Scottsboro, Alabama to the late Seaborn and Lucille Vaught. She graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University with a BS in Elementary Education in 1960, later earning her MAEd from Alabama A&M. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was employed by Scottsboro City Schools from 1960 to 1993, teaching third grade most of those years at Caldwell Elementary School. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and the United Methodist Women. Her most cherished church activity was singing in the Chancel Choir. Mrs. Sims was also active in civic and educational clubs such as Music Study Club, Community Chorus, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the American Association of University Women.
Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Claude Wayne Sims; father, Seaborn Loveless Vaught; mother Lucille Campbell Vaught; brother, Lindsey Vaught; half-brothers Tince Webb, Charlie Webb, and Robert Webb.
Mrs. Sims is survived by her daughter, Holly Sims Donham and son-in-law Michael Donham of Decatur, Alabama; son, Taylor Wayne Sims of Scottsboro, Alabama; grandchildren, Harrison Michaels of Birmingham, Alabama; Gini Beth Michaels of Prattville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, September 21st, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church or to Caldwell Elementary School.
