Jo Ann Medlock, age 90, of the Union Hill Community of Cullman County, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Marshall Medical Center North on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Jo Ann was born in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama. Her parents were James Monroe McHenry and Ida Hollaway McHenry. She was married to Curtis Edward Medlock (DOD 09/11/2006). Jo Ann was an energetic and active young adult. She was a high school graduate at the time (early 1940’s) when it wasn’t a common thing. She became a beautician who owned and operated her own beauty salon. Before her health began to be an issue Jo Ann enjoyed gardening and working in her backyard greenhouses. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She loved her church and her family. She combined her two loves by communicating by text and sending Bible scriptures regularly to her family members.
Family left to cherish memories of Jo Ann include: her two sons, David Medlock (Olisa) and Steven Medlock (Sonya); 6 grandchildren, Julie Clanton (Lee), Cole Medlock, Morgan Medlock (Breanna), Gabrielle Patton (Andrew), Hunter Medlock (Grace) and Rachel Medlock; and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband Jo Ann is preceded in death by her son, Curtis Vic Medlock; two brothers, Charles McHenry and Ronnie McHenry; and sister, Sarah McHenry.
The family has elected to honor Jo Ann’s wishes for cremation. A celebration of Life Service will be announced later.
