Jimmy Ray Atkins, 84, of the Old Prospect Community, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at his home.
Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 12 until 2 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m., in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, with burial at Liberty Grove Cemetery. Ron Wilson will officiate.
Jimmy was born in Walker County. He lived and grew up in the Old Prospect Community. He went to Prospect School and graduated from Carbon Hill High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lovis Atkins and Bethal Atkins; sister, Billie Gail Atkins; brothers-in-law- Harold Walton, Wendell Powell, Barry Banks, and Ray Hinds; in-laws, Grady Townsend and Berta Townsend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Townsend Atkins; children, Lisa and Wade O’Mary, Wade and Kim Atkins, Mark and Lisa Atkins, Mandy and Frankie Williams; grandchildren, Anna and Mark Prevost II, Sarah and Martin Roberts, Jakob Atkins, Molly Kate Atkins, Travis Atkins, Wyatt Williams, and Amelia Jane Williams; great-grandchildren, Mary Ellen Prevost, Mark Alan Prevost III, Lillian Lucille Roberts; sisters, Bobbie Walton, Peggy Powell, Linda Banks, and Judy and Kid Aldridge; sister-in-law, Pat Hinds; uncles, Jerry Don and Betty Atkins, and Billy and Hellen Glover and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Carbon Hill, 227 NW 3rd Ave., Carbon Hill, AL 35549.
Pallbearers will be Mike Blankensopp, Larry Elliot, Chuck Myers, Keith Pike, Randall Harbin, and Larry Berry.
