Jimmy Lou Horton, 77, of Huntsville, AL passed away on November 6th, 2024, peacefully at home, where she lived for the last 49 years. She was born on October 27th, 1947, in Huntsville, AL, making her a native Huntsvillian. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1965 and went on to earn college degrees at Snead St., Athens St. and Alabama A & M, were she earned a master’s degree in art. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Grace Horton; sister, Judy Kerr; and son, James Heintschel. She is survived by her sisters, Joanna Robinson (Bill) and Jennifer McMurray (Sam); son, Lee Heintschel; daughter, Dr. Rebecca Howell (John); grandchildren, Chase (Lucy), Grant and Hope Howell who affectionately called her “Nana”; her friend, Richard; and her cat, Miss Kitty.
She was a lifelong member of The Episcopal Church of the Nativity where she made needlepoint cushions, as part of the Embroidery Guild, taught Sunday school class and was involved with various church activities. She had a lifelong passion for art and even taught art to grade school children.
The family wants to give a special thanks to her caregivers and Hospice.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Maple Hill Cemetery.
