Funeral Services for Jimmy Grogan, age 88, of Ashland will be held on Wednesday October 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial with military honors will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.
Mr. Grogan was born in Talladega County. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959 and retired after 20 years of honorable service at the rank of Master Sergeant. During the Vietnam War he was in the 101st Airborne Division, during that time he completed over 200 jumps, was a drill sergeant and was a graduate of the Sgt. Major’s Academy, He met his wife while in Germany in 1963 and they were together over 60 years. After his retirement from the Army he attended Aires Technical School and owned and operated Grogan’s Small Engine Repair which he operated up into his mid-seventies. He enjoyed working the farm, taking care of his cattle and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Lieselotte Grogan of Ashland; his daughter Caroline Meek (Terry) of Ashland; his son Francis E. Grogan (Amy) of Talladega; one brother Billy Grogan (Janet) of Cragford; one sister Mary McClellan of Ashland; one sister in law Judy Grogan; six grandchildren, Joseph Meek (Fiancé Morgan), Kristen Elliot (Christopher), Justin Meek (Rebecca), Crimson Williams (Michael), Erik Strickland (Autumn), and Haley Pressley plus nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Francis P. Grogan Sr. and Mildred Nevilles; his brother Junebug Grogan; three sisters, JoAnn Hurst, Peggy Hendon, and Shirley Grant.
Active Pallbearers will be Randy Hurst, Dewayne Hurst, Billy Hurst, Phillip Hendon, John Hendon, and Dewayne Mitchell.
Steve Hendon and Mark McClellan will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland and until service time on Wednesday.
