On the morning of July 19, 2024, Dr. Jimmy E. Jackson, 84 of Huntsville, AL entered into the presence of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. and Treon Jackson, and his son, Randy Jackson (Angie). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bobbi Reaves Jackson; daughter, Rhonda (Erick) Jackson-Hendey; son, Russell Jackson; grandchildren, Rachel Jackson Gordon, Johnathan Hendey, Joshua Hendey, James Jackson, Phoebe Butler, Brooke Tillman, and Breanna Tillman; great grandchildren, Ella and Emory Gordon and Ethan and Ryleigh Osterc.
Dr. Jackson was born in Greenwood, MS on November 8th, 1939. He graduated from Mississippi College in 1961 and from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1964 and Doctor of Theology degree in 1970.
He pastored numerous churches during his days in New Orleans. He served as Senior Pastor of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL from June 4, 1978, until June 3, 2018. Prior to that, he served as pastor of Union Baptist Church, Grand Bay, AL from 1965-1971, First Baptist Church, Key West, FL from 1971-1974, and First Baptist Church, Merritt Island, FL from 1974-1978.
Dr. Jackson served as President of the Alabama Baptist Convention from 2009-2010 and on the Executive Committee; as Parliamentarian of the Southern Baptist Convention for 20 years and as First Vice President in 2006-2007; as a trustee of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and on the Board of Regents of the University of Mobile.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and pastor. We would like to thank the church family of Whitesburg Baptist Church for their continued love and support through these years. They have blessed us, served us and become part of our family.
Visitation will be Monday, July 22, 2024 from 4:00 until 6:30 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held in the Worship Center of Whitesburg Baptist Church, 6806 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville, AL. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
