Jimmy Dell Wilson, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Jimmy was born December 20, 1934 in Dothan, AL to Oscar and Levi Wilson. He attended high school in Mobile, AL and graduated college from the University of Southern Mississippi. Upon graduation, he went to Officer Candidate School in the U.S. Army. After faithfully serving in the Army, Jimmy changed his commission to the USAF reserves where he served for over twenty-two years aspiring to the rank of Full Bird Colonel. In 1957 Jimmy married the former Helen Grandquest. They were married sixty-two years until her passing in 2019. Upon retirement from the U.S. Air Force and from International Paper Company after thirty years, Jimmy resumed his third career as a building contractor.
Jimmy enjoyed life and loved his family and friends. Jimmy found love again in 2022 and married the former Reecie Moss. They were married in July of 2023. He attended Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 31, 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS. Bro. Bill Burcham will officiate the service. There will be a visitation from 12:00 to 2:00. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Belmont, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Reecie; his two sons, Renny of Byram, MS and Sidney of Clarksdale, MS; his grandchildren, Camden (Victoria) Wilson and Lauren (Ian) Dettwiller, all of Clinton, MS. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Erik, Elaina and Eli Wilson and Jett Dettwiller and a niece, Elaine Odam of Mobile, AL.
Pallbearers will be Marty Tennison, Ian Dettwiller, Camden Wilson, Logan Vaughn and Robert Walden.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS for their expertise, care and kindness.
