Mr. Jimmy Dean Smith, Sr., age 71, of the Morgan City area of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born in Illinois on March 2, 1951 to Ervin Smith and Velva Mae Braggs Smith. He and Judy Gayle Askins were married for 27 years. Mr. Smith had earned an associated degree and was employed as a Senior Design Engineer with General Electric. He was also a United States Army veteran.
Jimmy had a wide variety of interest. He held a black belt in Taekwondo. He loved fixing up older model cars, always enjoyed a good game of either pool or bowling and/or riding his motorcycle. He was a Ham Radio operator and loved technology, including electronics and computers.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Judy Askins Smith; children, Jimmy Dean Smith, Jr., Joshua Smith (Slyvia), Melissa Smith, Jessica Teal (Matthew), Leslie Askins and Crystal Hafner; Mother, Velma Smith; brothers, Roy Smith (Rose), Donny Smith and Elwin Smith. Jimmy is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his father, Ervin Smith.
The family has elected cremation but a memorial service will be Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City, Alabama. Friends and family will be received from the hour of 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. with the memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
