Jimmy Bernon Sewell, Sr., 87, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his home in Pontotoc, MS. He was born on July 14, 1937, to Ivy and Ona Mae Sewell. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Jenkins Sewell, on July 23, 1955. They were married 65 years prior to her death. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1964. After his service he became a self-trained handyman and mechanic of anything from sewing machines to vehicles and electrical to plumbing. He was a member and deacon of Woodland Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, attending sporting events for his grandchildren, and hosting family fish frys.
Survivors include his children: Jim Sewell (Carole Ann), Donna Long (Rex), and Nicole Tindall (Benji) all of Pontotoc. His grandchildren: Kayla Adams (Cody), Kasey Long, Kaitlyn Vaughn, Parker Sewell, Walker Tindall, Will Tindall, and Annasyn Tindall. His great-grandchildren: Kendall Adams, Caleb Adams, Cullen Adams, Cayden Vaughn, and Nyla Vaughn. His siblings: Chester Sewell, Rev. Harvey Sewell (Linda), Joe Sewell, Betty Cayson, Debra Waldrop (Robert) and brother-in-law Jimmy Jenkins (Diane).
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Imogene Stacy.
Services will be Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 3PM at Woodland Baptist Church with Rev. Harvey Sewell and Bro. Justin Varnon officiating. Visitation will begin at 1PM and continue to service time. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Parker Sewell, Will Tindall, Walker Tindall, Mike Stacy, Dale Stacy, Cody Adams, and Allen Cayson.
