There’s something special about Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The pine and oak-covered hills roll and wind around viridescent corn fields. Hurricane Creek flows clearly and quietly over the dam’s stone edge feeding abundant life to the fields and wildlife below. The air is dusted with the scent of clean, crisp pine. Just around a bend sits a beautiful white sided home situated perfectly atop the hill with endless views of the family farm. It’s a magical place built solidly on God and family. It’s a place where the sun shines a little brighter and love is richer all because of one family, the Meadow family.
In that wonderful family home, Jimmy Ann Meadow Roberts was born to Thomas Richard Meadow and Mildred Pauline Meadow on December 9, 1935. She was welcomed with open arms by her siblings Dick (Meadow), Margaret (Nealy), Joy (House) and Nancy (Royster). There she would grow into a beautiful woman, attend Lipscomb College, work in downtown Nashville and eventually find the love of her life, William (Bill) Albert Roberts, Jr. Together Bill and Jimmy Ann would move away from their beloved Tennessee hills and begin their own family welcoming William (Al) Albert Roberts, III and Maria Meadow Roberts (Garner). Once they established their homestead in Athens, AL, Jimmy Ann and Bill found their new church family with West Hobbs Street Church of Christ. She was a devoted member, singing praise and worshiping from the same pew seat for over 55 years. Her strong belief in the Lord guided her throughout her life and until her last breath on September 21, 2024, at the of age 88.
Jimmy Ann would live a splendid life of service and care, raising her children hand in hand with Bill. Her heart and home were open, and she became an extra mom to so many. She loved them as her own children. As her mother before her, she would keep track of her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews often sending them words of encouragement and love. She adored her daughter in law, Lisa and son in law, Ray and oh! those grandchildren were her joy! Jonathan (Heflin), Peyton (Heflin), Chyanne (McDonald), Natalie (Roberts) and Houston (Roberts) will always know exactly how much they were loved and valued as she made certain of that. She was a solid rock and a safe, soft spot to land whenever they needed her.
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “The purpose of life…is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Jimmy Ann Meadow Roberts lived well – a complete, joy-filled, full life in service to the Lord, her family, and her community. Her legacy of love, open-heartedness, generosity and kindness lives on through us all.
