Funeral services for Mrs. Jimmie Faye Mattox, age 79 of Ashland, were held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Keith Jones and Bro. David Rozelle officiating. Burial followed at Ashland City Cemetery.
Mrs. Mattox passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Clay County Nursing Home. A lifelong resident of Clay County, she worked as a seamstress at Higgins Manufacturing and as a textile worker for many years before becoming a homemaker over 40 years ago. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, Mrs. Jimmie also owned “Mattox Christmas Trees” with her husband, Pierce Reid. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her special grandchild, Kobie Traylor was her pride and joy; she always looked forward to seeing her every day. Her hobbies included anything that involved her family and talking on the phone. Mrs. Mattox was a member of Clairmont Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Mattox of Ashland; two sons: Tim Mattox (Sharon) of Bethlehem, PA and Donald “Donnie” Mattox (Jackie) of Morrisville, PA; her sister, Barbara Hallman of Ashland; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Pierce R. Mattox; her parents, Thomas Byrd Gravette and Arelious McCain Gravette; four sisters: Shelby Jean Hindmon, Larue Allen, Rebecca Gravette and Betty Lou Gravette.
Active pallbearers were: Ronald Mattox, Alan Ryals, Stetson Cooper, Kevin Mattox, Randy Mitchell and Harvey Craft.
The staff of Clay County Nursing Home served as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Jimmie requested no flowers; instead donations to be made at First State Bank of Alabama under the account for Kobie Traylor.
Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.
