Mr. Jimmie Dayton Lamar, age 78, husband of Janet Lamar, and a resident of Bear Creek Pike in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital.
A funeral service for Mr. Lamar will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Kenneth McFarlen officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Unity in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4-7PM and again on Saturday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 23, 1938 in Maury County, Jimmie was the son of the late Luther Lamar and the late Elaine Cheek Lamar. He was a 1957 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. He served in the National Guard for six years, and was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ for fifty-four years. Jimmie married Janet Caldwell on June 2, 1961. He enjoyed working for Columbia Power and Water Systems where he was employed for forty-three years. Jimmie was a simple man who enjoyed raising his cattle.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by his sons: Paul (Linda) Lamar of Culleoka, Dale Lamar of Columbia; brothers: Larry (Ann) Lamar of Culleoka, Kenneth (Cathy) Lamar of Culleoka; sisters: Ruth (Jonathan) Lamar of Columbia, Miriam Battersby of Franklin; grandchildren: Jacob Lamar, Elayna Lamar, Marlee Pendergrass; brother-in-law: Billy (Anna) Caldwell of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Harold Delk, Jonathan Bates, John Waldrum, John Bernhart, Jacob Lamar, and Billy Caldwell.
Honorary pallbearers will include: the members of New Lasea Church of Christ and the employees of Columbia Power and Water Systems.
